The 2018 annual Unge Forskere (Young Researchers) Regional Final was held on Thursday April 4th in Vitengarden. A wonderful total of 15 students from St. Olav vgs 3IB submitted their Extended Essays in the categories of Humanities and Natural Sciences & Technology.

Of a total of 10 places from Rogaland, 3 students from St.Olav vgs - Even Aslaksen, Philip Ullensvang Taylor, Amalie Midjord Torkildsen - were compete in the national finals in Oslo on April 16th. Their original research projects covered diverse topics in Chemistry, Economics and Physics.

  • In Economics, Amalie questioned, "To what extent is the ice cream market in the Stavanger region an oligopoly?"
  • Philip, in Chemistry, investigated, "The Effect of the Mass of the Catalyst Sodium Hydroxide on the Yield of the Products in the Production of Biodiesel from Sunflower Oil and Ethanol."
  • Then in Physics, Even examined, "A study on the deflection of a ruler. How does the deflection of a clamped ruler depend on the weight attached to its free end?"

The St. Olav vgs community is immensely proud of all of our entrants and their achievements. We wish Amalie, Even and Philip a huge congratulations and the very best of luck representing our school, city and county in Oslo.
